"Just A Mate" - A Song For An Australian

Buenos Aires, Argentina

My pal Kerri and I are both quite musical, or at the very least enjoy making music. We wrote a song for one of our travelling buddies in Colombia, and, after a few glasses of Malbec and a few strums of the out-of-tune hostel guitar in Argentina, we wrote a song for another one of our travel partners a few months later. 

This song was written in about 15 minutes, and was meant as a joke. Mark loved Brazil so much, and couldn't stop talking about it, so we wanted a song with a Brazilian vibe. The real joke was on us, however, when it was revealed that Mark was NOT rejecting our flirtations; it's just that he was so torn, so in love with us both, that he couldn't choose which Canadian girl he wanted. *cough* I mean really, how could he ever choose between the two of us?? *double cough*

After Kerri returned to Chile on her own, Mark and I travelled through Uruguay and back to Buenos Aires together - since then we've kept in touch a lot, Skyping and emailing a ton since we said goodbye in November. I'll be seeing him in less than three weeks, however, as I will be staying with him in his flat in London! I thought he would still be in Australia when I visited the UK, but the stars have aligned and I'm so excited to be reunited with one of my favourite travel partners. I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times, but I truly believe it - one of the best things about travelling are the relationships you build with people from around the world. Four (soon to be five) countries later, I'm happy to call Mark one of my closest friends. Even if he is a heartbreaker.
